DashHawk + Aggressive Race + Stock Exhaust = “OH MY”
First of, on Matt’s Aggressive Race file let me just say OMFG!!! I LOVE that file. I started off with my first tune being Aggressive Street Economy (skipped stock plus – I mean who are we kidding here). It is a nice tune for certain, but with all the posts I have read, I was prepared to skid my shorts when I put the tune in. I found it lively responsive but not frightening like I assumed it would be.
Aggressive Race on the other hand….. It makes you pee down your leg a little every time you drop the hammer! I liked it so much I left it in even though I only have stock exhaust. I try not to mash the peddle at EVERY street light (difficult as that may be).
Enter DashHawk… I have had the DH for a few weeks but had no EGT probe. That changed yesterday. I put it in – took an hour or so. Perfect. I would suggest this route for any gauge-less people out there.<o></o>
<o></o>Comments and Questions:
<o></o>
Well here is the deal: I guess I expected the EGT temps to climb and fall more slowly. They are closer to RPM in fluctuation than they are, say, water temp. EGT can raise or fall hundreds of degrees in a second - WOW!<o></o>
<o></o>With stock exhaust, if I drop the hammer and keep the peddle mashed I can get the exhaust temps up to 1500 before I see 50 mph. I’m not sure if this is BAD but it is somewhat alarming. As soon as I let the peddle up the temp drops down nicely to the three-digit range.<o></o>
<o></o>I know that the magic number is 1200 deg on EGT. Are these brief visits into the “teens” going to be bad for the engine? I mean they are a couple of seconds in duration, then back down to 900-ish.<o></o>
<o></o>I DO intend on getting a turbo-back exhaust when time/money allow. How much will turbo back help this occasional throttle punching adventures? I do not have anything to tow until next boat season so perhaps I do not need better exhaust till then!?!? Any comments?

a good turbo back exhaust will help TREMENDOUSLY in the egt dept.
you can run at 1250 all day long if you want, and the 6.0 will handle 1400 degrees for some time with no problems.
i have a very hot SPARTAN file, and even with a turbo back and no cat i can peg the 1500 pyro in a matter of seconds. just dont make numerous back to back trips into the red zone, give the manifolds and heads and all the surrounding area a minute to cool down before making another brief trip into the danger zone.
you will be fine hitting high egt's as long as you dont stay up there for more than 8-9 seconds , maybe more, but that's the longest i've risked having my pyro pegged, because as soon as you get around 1600 things start to melt, and you will hit 2000 degrees almost instantaneously

second. get rid of that edge.. it will fail on you very soon, i had three of them before i realized what garbage they are. YES they make power, there is no denying that !! and it was fast, but the SCT is way better trust me.
dont worry, go ahead and set your max egt at 1500 on your module, but set your egt ALARM at around 1350-1400 that way you can still make the sick power and the alarm will let you know you are getting close, and to keep an eye on it without it actually robbing you of power. you will be fine, the 6.0 will handle 1400 degrees easily, and i've pegged mine at 1500 several times, but not for more than 5-6 seconds.. you wont hurt anything, and you'll be suprised by how much more power you will be making.
i did the same thing at 1250 when i first got my edge. dude, crank it up all the way, you wont be sorry (until the unit takes a dump and starts making your truck run erratically) until your tranny gives up ")

Smokes like a bad Cheech and Chong movie!!!
Seriously, you can keep it from spewing smoke if you keep a light throttle but if you put anything more than a quarter peddle into it, it DOES belch a bunch of nice thick black smoke. If you stomp the peddle to the floor is pours a continuous stream of smoke out so bad you want to start humming James Bond movie themes.
I kinda like it at times… on Friday after work, a bald guy in a “sporty” convertible car was driving like an idiot on my right hand side – big mistake. I mashed the gas and all but lost site of him in my wake!!!
Other times it’s a little embarrassing – when you are just trying to pass people on the highway you tend to cloud up the lane for a bit. the uninitiated probably think "what a POS, he needs to have his engine fixed"
All in all I love this tune. I will certainly have to take it out when foul weather season comes. In the rain the *** end tends to walk out on you with little to no notice. If you ever played the Halo video games, its like driving the Warthog. Kind of fun but a little dangerous.
