Routine maintenance you'd love

to forget LOL

What is it about the normal wear-and-tear on a truck that's so easy to take for granted and ya' say "...i'll get to it tomorrow...". And tomorrow gets to be next week...next month...

So my trucks are in the shop getting a once-over, twice. Plugs, wires, ignition, rearend oil, tranny fluid, filters, torque-check suspension, lube linkages, radiator flush etcetc...

...and get intimately reacquainted with all the parts It's fun! The best part is it doesn't have to be messed with for another 5-30 thousand miles!

The plugs off the '95 look real good for 28K miles, only ash

a turkey baster sucked all 3 quarts out of the rearend on the old '79

Rex, I'd like to take this moment to rethink that Thanksgiving dinner invite...........
I know how deferred maintenance goes- both my car and my truck are more than 1500 miles overdue for oil changes, my wife's Jeep needs a tranny service, all three could probably stand to have the axle lube changed out too, not to mention the Jeep also needs to have an externally leaking headgasket addressed......

LOL yea the list keeps growing...thankfully the wife's car is under warranty work for a couple more years.

Since I'm on a roll, will get two more gallons of rearend oil and finish off the rest of the differentials sitting around here...

Compared to what I deal with at work, and in the house, I really do enjoy spending time in the garage working on my trucks, I guess that makes me weird. Speaking of weird, it would physically haunt me to go 1500 miles over a oil change, I wouldn't be able to sleep, I'd be a complete wreak. For the most part I change my oil at 2700-2800 miles, I don't care if modern oil can last longer I just have to change it before 3000 miles.

After I bought my 96 F150 we had it in my buddies shop giving it a good look over, he asked if i had any use for 10 gallons of mobile one fleet oil that he couldn't sell. I ended up dumping the oil in my truck 6 quarts at a time, I'd run the engine a few minutes shut her off and drain the oil. I did that for an entire afternoon, the oil would get a little cleaner each time I'd drain and replace it. By the time I used all 10 gallons it was draining out clean. The truck had 47,000 miles on it then it has 75,000 miles on it now, I religiously change the oil in that truck every 2500 miles, and it still comes out clean.

You can tell where my priorities are, the paint may be falling off my house and my grass may be 3 feet tall, but all be damned my trucks run perfect.

i agree jimbo. I drive a ton of hiway miles and i got tired of changing my oil every month, so i changed to valvoline full synthetic and i now go 6000 miles to the oil change. they recommend 7500 or 10k

Good idea, not much more work and cleaner gears.

,
jimbo beam, that was excellent, Mobil One for rinsing the motor -- I filled the '79 truck engine with diesel fuel and turned the engine over every day. Then after two new filters and oil changes the valves were quiet again and the oil is still clean as new. 248K miles and that's a good feeling.
