OK a buddy of mine has a 1978 F100 we are gona turn into a pull truck. I need anything and everything about building one of these trucks. The engine is a 300 I-6. So Suspension to frame mods etc etc. THANK YOU in advance!!
I love the 300 I-6 as it's a torque monster, but,,,,, wouldn't a stroked 460 be more of an advantage or do they have classes for different engine sizes? If they have classes, then "yeah", 300 all the way.
High gears (456's +), Hd U-joints/driveshafts & collar, Fluid fill tires -w- lug stud modifications, Put a button / HD clutch, Tires with deep paddles, Safety devices.
A bigger limit on credit card & Have fun.
Rich.
I would try to get free floaters from a 1-ton. They are definetly HD. It might be a problem with your 4x4 driving on dry pavement because of setting up axle ratio & tire diameters. Its not impossible though.
Is there any truck salvage yards in twincities area?
That comment about credit limit isn't a joke. Those guys who pull sucessfully pay alot to play.
Old tractors are cheaper and for 2-3000 you can have alot of fun almost every weekend in summertime. Provided you have use of a trailer.
There was one this weekend in Park Rapids but I was working a tractor not playing with oneRich.
the front ends like to bounce on a half ton,so mabe run double shocks lower front tire psi. i would defenetly up grade the rear to a d-60 or sterling 10.25 and biger shafts, u-joints in the front. oh ya if its a 4speed a centerfore 3 dual friction clutch will last a long time
Yeah theres a place out in Hastings that is ONLY FORDs and then one place in savage that has a ok amount of old Fords. As for other yards you will have to travel out of the cities, I kno theres one up by Rogers too that carries old stuff. Theres one out west off of hwy 7 too.
