I have a 1990 F-150 4 wheel drive with a 4.9 and E4OD tranny. I bought the truck new but have not drove it much in the last 8 years or so. About a year ago I was hauling a heavy load up some hills on the highway and stoped for a break and noticed the transmission was leaking fluid bad. I let it cool down and put some fluid back in and it ran fine the rest of the way home. When I say it ran fine, it was running fine the whole way it just stoped leaking fluid after cooling down. Like I said I haven't drove it much in the last year but it does leak a little fluid now sitting in the garage. It seems to drive and shift fine. I am planning on driving it more now that my daughter has her drivers license, she will be driving my commuter car. The first question is does anyone think I damaged the transmission. Should I take it in right away to a transmission shop before starting to drive it again every day and any ideas what a transmission shop would charge to fix it.
Another question, the truck has 175,000 miles on it, if it is the front seal leaking should I have the transmission shop do anything else to it while they are working on it and how much money am I looking at?
