Heater Core Replacement

My heater core has been leaking for some time now and I decided to replace it this weekend. The removal of the old heater core was very simple and did not take much time at all. To my surprise the local Napa store down the street even had a replacement in stock, and it was even the correct one.

My question is, the factory unit had some insulation around the heater core and my guess from where it is located was designed to keep it from moving around in the housing. Is this correct and if so do you guys have any idea where I could get this to put back in? After 40 plus years or service the insulation on my old heater core is not re-useable and my replacement core has none on it. I do not need anything NOS just something that will work in its place.

Mine came out a couple of years ago and had the same issue. The foam was more like goo than foam, at least what was there. I went down to Home Depot and got some exterior foam insulation in a small coil. That went around the end of the core and with a little "firm" pressure it has done its job for over 2 years. I think it cost about $5.00. Good luck..........
