Question heater core question

I have had a smell in the cab for 6 mos now but only after the truck warms up like 40 miles or so or when the outside air is warmer the faster the smell. I very much suspect the heater core. I have cleaned the engine off and inspected all the lines for leaks. I pressure tested it as well and all good. It dosn't loose hardly any coolant so it is a small leak but enough that i have to keep a window open in the cab. So i have all the parts needed to do a complete flush of the coolant since it is due. I plan on replacing the heater core , thermostat, t-stat housing, degass bottle. I plan on using the red coolant from fleetpride that is concentrated. So the question I now have is looking at the heater core connectors at the firewall has these funky connectors on them. I have read there is a tool that removes them. What and where can I get the tool? also will I need new o-rings for the new heater core connection? It looks like its a tight area to get my hand into to do the disconnect. any help would be great. thanks Jeff

Not sure about the tool but here is a good write up.
I read that the disconnect tool can be bought at Napa.

Good write up guys. My windshield fogs up evertime I put the refroster on. Dose that mean the heater core is leaking. Its done it since new and the dealer said it was normal I told him my other cars never did this. Its still doing it its a F350 99.

Just an FYI. A copper heater core is far more superior than a lesser expensive aluminum heater core when it comes to pumping out the heat. Sometimes you can find them, sometimes you can't but they are worth the extra cost especially in cold climates where it takes forever for a diesel to heat up.

Bonanza Yes, if you get a steamy front windshield when you hit the fan switch your core is usually bad. Especially if you smell a sweet smell right away.

Question

thanks for the replies here is one more question. I plan on using the same connection that is there now on the firewall to the heater core tubes. They are plastic type with 2 o-rings according to the pic. I called the dealer to see if they just sell the plastic connector wit the o rings that are on the aluminum core tubes. I was told I had to buy all new hoses to get them. I thought I read on here that there was a "kit" available but I cant find the post on it. I would just like to have it in case I bugger the original ones up when I try to remove them. In the worst case I could cut and clamp them but only if I have to. thanks jeff
