I am purchasing a 64 f-250 in a few weeks. It needs a lot of work and it is going to be a project. It comes with a 460/ c6 combo that is out of a two wheel drive pickup I believe. The year on the valve cover sticker says 1986. As far as I know this is a good motor and it looks clean, it will need motormounts and other stuff to work in the truck as it is actually just sitting in there right now, like I said its a "project".
My question is the truck also comes with a good np435 4 speed that I would much rather use as far as I know this is the tranny that came in the truck originally. How hard is it to find a bell housing that will fit both the 460 block and the np435 tranny? The truck is 4 wheel drive and it has a divorced dana 24 transfer case if I am not mistaken, and I can handle the fab work of motormounts and crossmembers, I just need help locating the proper bellhousing.
Sorry for the long post, and I appreciate in advance any info.

Check to see what the transmission bellhousing hole spacing is and that will help narrow the search for answers. Once you get that post it on here to see what answers you get concerning it. I am pretty sure that the hole spacings are somewhat close to one another.
Thanks for the reply. I'll have to get back to you on the numbers, as I dont have the truck yet, just tryin to get a headstart on a long list of parts I need.

1983 was the first year Ford offered a manual transmission with the 460 engine.
Ford F250/350 460 4X4. Only one 4 speed manual was offered (1983/87): WARNER T-19.
460 Bellhousing: 1983 was different than 1984/87.
1983: Marked E3TA-7500-BD = E3TZ-7505-C
1984/87: Marked E4TA-7500-DA or E7TA-7500-AA = E4TZ-7505-A

A manual transmission did come on the 370 and 429. There are other years, models, and engines to look at besides the ones listed specifically for the 460.

429's with a 4 speed were used in 1969/70 Boss 429's and 1971 429 Super Cobra Jets only. Parts are very hard to find and expensive. The 370's were only used in F500 and larger trucks. What transmissions were used, I haven't a clue. No Big truck books after 1979.
ZF is another option. It does require some more work to get it fit if I remember right. But the end result it finding a transmission that will fit inside the bellhousing pattern for the manual you have now.
You can get an aftermarket bellhousing (or scattershield) made by Lakewood for less than what a factory style bellhousing will cost thesedays. Its made from thick stamped steel, so you can weld/drill/shim if need be to make it work. This will also open up a variety of clutch, flywheel, and throwout bearing options. Might have to get creative, but it's doable.
