I was reading and found that the "other guys" 99-03 7.3L can change to this one Stancor 586-902 Glow Plug Relay can we do it too? Just curuious since I ahve changed min GPR 3 times already in 1.5 years....it seems that trying another one...a heavy duty one might make more sense....
So....reading that other post on the other forum...I guess we can....not that I don't trust those guys..cause I lurk there allot...I would like to here form some of the reguarls here...OUR gurus ....then I will most likely order one...if it gets the approval from this bunch!
Oh and the stancor is on my truck. PO installed it but it seems to be very nice upgrade. time will tell. biggest draw back is, depending on how you mount it, the engine cover may not fit back on with out some cutting.

Yukonsly
Yukonsly, i'm not as regular here as at the other "place", but i've done this to both of my trucks. I had even used the Napa gpr-109 on my 95 at first, and it lasted all of 3 months, before it started smoking, so i turned to the Stancor. That was over 2 years ago, and it still hasn't failed.
I just removed my engine covers completely, as all it did for me was provide shelter for the local mice to store the dogfood they absconded from my "lads". I haven't missed it, but i imagine if you want to keep it, a little creative trimming with a dremel tool would do the job.
This is a little off your topic, but has anybody put a switch or something on the glowplugs so they dont come on when its warm outside. I thought this might cut down on use and wear & tear on the system so you dont have to replace them so much. Just a thought.
That's a fairly common mod for just the reason you mentioned. Click here for good writeup. It doesn't have to be that complicated though. I think all you need to do is put a switch in the wire that becomes hot when you turn the key on. I think it's the small wire on the passenger side of the gpr. Whatever you do don't bother with the $20 gpr from NAPA. They also sell a $75 version that is the equivelant of oem. The stancor is supposed to be better yet.
