I love this truck! Recently flushed coolant and fixed pinhole leak in expansion tank. So me and me 3 yr. old little girl go to visit my sister's family 55 miles from us in the country. Truck runs great, temp never gets further than between O and R in NORMAL. We are there all day when ready to leave notice fluid under truck. Trace it and find pretty big pinhole leak in hose that runs off one of heater hoses on the T. I have 2 gal. jugs of water and put half of one in and man that leak is spewing. They live in the middle of nowhere and I don't have anything to fix it. So I have 1 1/2 gal. of water left and we leave for the drive home. 10 miles of backroads and then 45 miles of interstate. The temp never gets past the M in NORMAL until we get off our exit and it goes to the A. We live 2 miles off the exit and it goes back to M and we make home fine. Park in the drive get out with flashlight and it's still leaking pretty steady. I think I must have lost at least a 1/3 of my coolant and probably more. Am I making to big a deal out of this?
It was dark and I had my little girl and that 270K mile PSD got us home losing coolant the entire way. The old girl never missed a beat! I'll start another thread on where the leak is.
classic reason for why duct tape is in my tool box!
Right on Cooter, it's in mine now. I just checked the expansion tank 5 minutes after I pulled in. It was bone dry! I didn't hurt the engine, did I? I mean it never ran hot.
the factory gauge is junk. it probably did overheat. but you probably didn't hurt anything.
Crap! are you serious? What kind of gauge should I get? If they are junk does that mean they are totally inaccurate? If it was overheating it sure didn't act like it. I mean it ran just normal and good.
just about all factory gauges shouldnt even be called a "gauge" they are better off being called idiot gauges cause by the time they tell you something its too late, my advice is this, 4 easy steps remember, its a ford psd
1 fix leak
2 start truck
3 drive truck
4 enjoy truck
The same applies to your oil pressure "guage" it is a joke. The needle pops up to the middle just as soon as your oil pressure gets to a set minimum. I forget what that minimum is, but nonetheless it does NOT tell you at all what your operating oil pressure is. It does not move at all with the engine at higher rpms.

Not really sure you need to start ANOTHER thread to show where the leak is. Just my opinion......
