Is there any way to turn off that annoying chime that goes off when the key is the ignition and the door is open? I have a 2003 Ranger Edge 3.0L. Thanks
There is a little tab on the ignition tumbler assembly. When the key is in the ignition it bends this tab, pressing it up against a contact to indicate the key is in the ignition.
You can probably remove the tumbler, and bend the part around so they never touch.. this should take care of the chime.. BUT I don't know what it's going to do as far as the PATS and all that.
Depending on where the source of the noise is you might be able to simply unplug the chimer. I did this in my truck, granted its a 94, but it unplugged and no more chime!
Under the dash at the firewall is a large plug with a lot of wires under it. Look for a red/pink wire. With the door open ***** this wire and check for power. Should be basically 0 volts.
Put the key in the ignition and test it again. Should be 12V. If so, cut wire and tape off.
This will remove the chime when the door is open and key is in the ignition, but keep the chime functional other times, for example if you leave the headlights on.
