Hi guys . Frustrated E250 5.4 owner. hope you guys can help me.Just before winter i was having problems with the van starting, it would just turn over. after quite a few attempts it would start. gradually it got worse. but when the cold weather hit i had no promblems it fired up right away. But now the warm weather is back (Thank God) it started with the same problem. I noticed the fuel pump was not kicking in when I turned the ignition on. After checking the fuse, relay and shut off switch, which all checked out fine. I replaced the pump. which worked fine right after i had installed it but the next day i had the same problem. after (violently) hiting the fuel tank (With the ignition on) the pump kicked on. Which worked fine for the rest of the day. But yet again the next day was the same thing. only this time the 2x4 which turned into a 10lb sledge hammer had no effect on the pump. However leaving the ignition for a few minutes eventually the pump kicks on. Dose anyone know what could cause this?
Try out our tech forums. They are chock full of help and information. Just click on the Forums tab at the upper left and scroll down the choices. I suggest this one: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum48/ There are other forums and even one for vans so don't be shy and check them out.
We also have a chapter forum by state and country that is worth checking out. Just scroll down to the bottom of the forum list and you'll find it.
