I have a '95 Bronco, and the high beam behaves very strangely -- sometimes it simply doesn't come on, other times it just goes dark. The blue indicator on the dashboard stays ON, however. That seem to indicate that the switch in the steering column is probably OK.
Questions: does anyone had a problem like this? And if so, what had to be done to fix it? If no answer for the previous question, how is the hi-beam switched? Is there a relay somewhere, or the high bean is switched directly from the steering column?
I looked at the diagram, and you are correct, the blue light is after the switch, so the switch must be ok. After the switch, the wiring runs out to a main connector on the firewall, near the brake booster area. You might want to check this plug. If the lowbeams are ok, then we can assume the ground is good at the headlights.
Could the dimmer switch be the problem? On the older models, sometimes when the dimmer switch was used for high beams, the headlights would either flicker, or go off and on.
No relay on this model. And the blue light is tee'd right into the highbeam wire coming out of the dimmer switch. He said the blue light was working when the highbeams were not. The only thing I can find between the blue light and the highbeams themselves is that plug and the wiring.

I tried it a few days ago -- beam was OK.
Last night I had another nocturnal trip home (7 hours) and the beam was flaky for the first 10 minutes until I hit a pothole -- from that point in, it was rock solid for almost all the way, becoming flaky only at the very end. Of course when I checked it today in broad daylight, everything was fine again.
I'll see if I can take the main connector off and check the contacts there.
