Fender emblems - replacement procedure question

I have a 1965 F-100 and have recently obtained two NOS (practically) chrome fender emblems. Realizing that many of you have replaced these before I thought I would seek some advice before tearing into them.

How do these attach (i.e. glue, clips etc.) and what is the general procedure for removing and replacing? Would love to know how to get my hand behind the fender comfortably without removing it. Any help would be appreciated.

John there are a clips or nuts that hold these in place. They just slide off with a little work we carefully put force on the outside got it loose and pulled them off. The best suggestion I have for you is to visit your local wrecking yard and pull one off a "donor" it's good practice and if your like me . I have to do it to understand .Good Luck

Glue? Nope...Barrel Clips...little round expandable metal fasteners with teeth that push into the sheet metal. There are sponsors here on FTE that sell all kinds of them.

3M double sided tape is what's most commonly used on emblems that "glue" on.

Thanks Bill, the glue was a weak attempt at humor as I would never risk defacing the side of one of these fine old trucks with glue. I couldn't remember the correct word for "barrel clips" and will order a few immediately.

May want to hang onto those 65 emblems since they don't repro them anymore. Who knows, may find a purest and may be worth something on ebay. The 66 emblem is offered as a replacement.

While at salvage yard may want to practive on emblem or two. As noted, emblems secured by 'barrel clips' and usually able to remove with flat wedge type prying tool simular to wide flate screwdriver. Work in small increments starting at the 3 secure points and gradually work it off. If using metal tool, suggest wrap end w/ tape so don't scratch paint.
