Changing a 1946 truck front to a 1940

Iam new to this mesageboard. I reading thru some of the topics and notice one of interest. I have a 46 truck in which I have disassemblied down to the frame. Iam also interested in changing to a 1940 front end. After reading the topics Iam still not sure if it will work.

Oh by the way i have a low milege stock motor out of my 1946 I dont plan to use (the speedometer had less then 100,000 miles)

Hello-The front ends of the 40-41 pick ups are the same. All others are different. You are going to have a difficult job changing. Good luck!

This is a project worth doing, as the '40 has better (classic) lines than the '46. The fenders, hood, grille and inside metal are going to be difficult to find. Something to remember is not to tear everything off before you have the parts to go on! There are fiberglass fenders out there, but getting metal parts, that are in good condition, is the key to this project. Finding a complete '40 as a donor can't be found on the next town over...There are not a lot of '40 trucks still complete, and in good condition.

I'd have to say that the '40 Ford pickup has the most beautiful look when comparing them to post-war Ford pickups. Transitioning a '46 into a '40 is a lot of work, and it will be necessary to have a working knowledge of both years' ways of fitting and making things go together well.

My avetar shows my converted '46 to '40 show vehicle, 15 years of constant work!
