I just got a 1940 pickup. One of the guy's at work approached me and asked if I would be interested in an old truck his dad had. That was last October and I finally collected it two weeks ago. It came with everything other then the bed and wheels. Here are a few pictures. Has a Mustang II front end that is now fully rebuilt, Chassis engineering rear spring kit, 302 and C4. I'll keep updating this post as I get more done. So far have not had to buy any parts as all the front end parts were in the 12 tubs of spares that came with it.
Mine came in 250 boxes, the pickup bed was in 6 pieces, so I know where your coming from. Looks like a nice start.
That old X frame center section may come back to bite you, I cut mine out along with the old rear spring cross member to give me more room to place my trans, exhaust, brake cables, drive shaft, etc. I would think it through a bit more.

Yeah, I'm still working out what all of the bits and pieces are for. Did find some cool stuff, a complete set of vintage Stewart Warner gauges and a vintage musical horn that plays 15 differen't songs. That will annoy the neighborhood.
It came with a C4 Transmission center section and it all seems to fit well. I still have to find a bed as it didn't come with one.
I got the engine and transmission in this weekend. I took the heads off of the block as the engine would not turn over by hand. Problem in the end was that when the previous owner mated the block to the transmission he didn't have the torque converter seated right. Its now turning perfectly, cost me a new set of head gaskets. The cylinder bores were in great shape and still had the cross hatching in them.
If you go to my Gallery you should see a couple of pictures there that will give you some ideas on the frame and the firewall set back.
Thanks for the ideas. I like the Camaro column idea, I have had a few 3rd Gen Camaro's and still have my contacts to get a cheap column. I have what looks like a Hurst shifter that came with mine. I'm going back to my storage unit Friday to bring home the rest of the tubs of parts so that I can see what is missing.
I installed the Ford 9 inch last night, fitted well, I was surprised that the spring pads lined up perfectly.
I will get some more pictures up tomorrow. I now have the chassis as a roller and have the cab and front sheet metal mounted. That is as far as I have got. I am also working on a period Model A Hot Rod with a Mercury Flathead and 3 speed.
That looks awesome. I love my 40. I am in the process of redoing mine. I wish I had a frame like yours to work with. It would make things much easier. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, I was lucky the frame was already to go, just needed painting and then bolting together. Frames come up all the time, where in Florida are you located?
