My '66 Custom Cab padded dash has lots of cracks. Can new vinyl be installed (like re-upholstering a seat), and if so, is this a realistic DIY? Or is it better to rip it off and refinish the whole dashboard to be just painted metal (like the base-model cab interior)? [my dash need repainting anyway]

 

The replacement padded dash is available, but costs around $650!!! OUCH!!!! The easiest and most practical thing to do is just remove it and paint the metal dash underneath.

Thanks for all the inputs -- the how-to link is awesome. Probably will try it myself...and if I mess it up, then I can start paying the pro's or just strip it back to metal and paint it.
