I have had the unpleasant experience of fighting a legal battle over the damage done to the front and right side of my '47 truck. One of the problems I have had is setting a value for repairs where parts are not available or finding reproduction, old new stock, or used parts. One item I previously saw was the chrome or stainless waterfall grill in a reproduction part. I have not been able to find since the damage was done to mine. If any one knows where I can get one, or good sources for good body parts, I could use the help.<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shape id=_x0000_i1026 style="WIDTH: 11.25pt; HEIGHT: 11.25pt" type="#_x0000_t75" alt=""> </v:shape>

Well Tottspop, There is a grill panel on ebay right now, # 4642574224 if you want to check it out. Obsolete Ford Parts, Inc. has a set in their catalog chrome plated for $224.00, I don't know the quality because I haven't purchased any yet.
If you haven't already checked Oblolete Ford Parts, Inc also shows a 8 leaf front spring for $119.00. If you decide to purchase one you might want to purchase one for each side to balance it out. I'm sure that other people sell them. Its too bad you are not closer, I have a set of used ones fastened to a complete front axle assembly that I would like to get rid of.
Totspop,
Very sorry to hear about your damage. An accident is something we all would rather not think about. What happened and what has the response of the other driver's insurance company been like?
Totspop,
Sorry about the accident. I redid a '47 a few years ago and ordered one of those reproduction grills from Bob Drake. Just about everything he sells is excellent quality but those grille bars(at least back then) were not very good quality and I shipped them back.I wound up picking out good grille bars from several different trucks to get enough good ones. Don't know if you know but original bars are side specific.
I had placed as a requirment fot the repair that both of the front springs would need to be replaced since the stance and spring rate of the original 60 year old springs could not be matched with a reproduction spring. As far as the grille, has any one used the Westcott grille?
Paul
Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong but, its my understanding that these grill bars all come from overseas, probably from the same mfg. and they are all of fair quality. So you are probably taking a chance. Maybe someone else has had good luck with them. My Wescott's catalog is a couple of years old but a guy told me the other day that they are making the grill section out of fiberglass now.
Yes, the bars are made over seas, usually Taiwan. And the chrome is usually so-so and the ends are sometimes jagged looking, originals are way better. If you want the best, look around and build a set, that's how I did it, and I'm sure many others.
