Cracked Transmission Case!!!
Hi All
2005 King Ranch F350 4X4 Long Box 6.0 <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<st1:Street w:st=" /><st1:City w:st="on">Diesel</st1:City> <st1:PostalCode w:st="on">12000</st1:PostalCode> miles.
I am another victim of the infamous wet bell housing. It is not dripping on the ground so I was just going to wipe it off occasionally and leave it at that, unless it gets worse.
So hear is were the fun comes in. I was under there wiping off the trans, and I find! Yes a crack in the bell housing area on the passenger side, about a size of a silver dollar.
What the heck was the cause is beyond me! It must be a casting flaw and this is the main reason for this post. Is to find out if any others had this same problem, and in the same spot. <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shape id=_x0000_i1027 style="WIDTH: 11.25pt; HEIGHT: 16.5pt" alt="" type="#_x0000_t75"></v:shape>

<v:shape style="WIDTH: 11.25pt; HEIGHT: 16.5pt" alt="" type="#_x0000_t75"></v:shape>Mind you the only thing I have pulled with this truck was my Jeep on a tow dolly 400 miles when picking up this truck. The original owner told me he never towed anything. The hitch was spotless and had no signs of any thing ever being put in there. All paint was perfect inside.

Am I the first to have this happen to?
Truck is in shop to have case replaced and got Fords approval! When I was there I made mention the oil seepage and that is how I found the crack. When they called to give me an update on the truck. They told me they put Die in the oil and ran it and found nothing so far. When I get it back I will keep looking under there with a black light and see if I find anything. It might just be the breather issue we have all read about.
Just the nature of the best truck out there?
Ford should have done better! and not messed with the C6 and just incorperated a Gear Vendor type of unit to the back of it and made it a 6 speed auto!

Here's the six ratios in the five speed TorqShift:
3.11:1 OD off, 1st gear
2.2:1 OD on, 1st gear
1.54:1 OD off, second gear
1.09:1 OD on, second gear
1:1 OD off, third gear
0.71:1 OD on, third gear
rev 2.88:1
The 1.09:1 and 1:1 ratios are exclusive - if one is used the other isn't used. The logic to determine which one to use is kind of complex.
