Just wondering since my mom FINALLY decided to get rid of it, what its worth. its got a good bit of rust, home made bed built with parts from multiple different years of trucks, original 221 flathead v8, 3spd manual tranny. hasnt been run in about 15 years, so I dont even know if the motor is seized or not, needs lots of exhaust work, plus fuel tank, etc. brakes are seized in place too.
anyone know what its actually worth? a friend claims its worth around $5k, but I highly doubt that. IMO, its worth practically nothing due to the condition. just looking for input from people who know. PM me about it if you want to.
5 grand is wayyyyy high. Values will also depend on location, in areas of the country prone to rust it seems that rusty vehicles go for more than in locations where rust isn't as bad. If the cab can be saved and has good doors, then about $500 is a decent price. If the cab is just totally rusted beyond hope, then take anything you can get. The 221 is not really desirable except to restorers, the 239 and larger motors are the desirable pieces.
Not worth much, but worth something, if even just for what ever parts can be used for another truck.
I dunno, I've never seen a '40 go for less than a grand as a parts truck...that would be without engine and tranny, or anything else under the hood....beat up a rusted to boot.
"lot's of rust" needs to be defined/seen. Surface rust to some folks is "lot's of rust".
Not having a correct bed is an issue, but if the truck is sound and can be cured with common patch panels, you might be suprised what it would sell for.
I've been looking throung Fordbarn.com ads of l;ate, and the least expensive , stuck, unknown condition flathead has asking prices of 300-on up.
A 40 is a desirable year. Gander through ebay motors and see what things go for.
only saw ONE on ebay, $15K and it was a fully restored one. mine is quite messy, it needs in addition to the things listed above, new seats and upholstry, and all new windows in it(thanks alot vandals)
The neighbor down the road from me bought a 40 ford with a free 239 and a water tank welded to the frame from an old farmer here local. He gave $100. Other than a bed, I think he can get it running for about $8K. that should include patch panels (floor is gone) Like '46 said it really depends on where you are at.
