Well, I decided to give rebuilding my rear end a chance. I just purchased a how to DVD from one of the forum sponsors, Badshoe Productions. I'll give everyone a review when it gets here. I just finished installing my heater in the shop so it should make for much more pleasant wrenching.
the ford 9'' is the best to learn on. very simply to do. all you need is a dial indicater, rebuild kit, gear set and a press.
I hope it goes well, rear ends and auto trannys have always been mysterious territory for me so I usually let someone else do the work. Figured this time I might as well see what all the fuss is about

Ohhhh, to have that much space to work around in & Heated to boot.
I watched Father build 9"er while I was growing up, he could tear 1 down, rebuild it & put it back together in 1/2 a day.
Yes. I know. I am talking about technical DVDs. None of them are that I have ever found. Most are small production runs and CC costs too much. None or Ron Covell's or Len's autobody 101 are captioned.
I watched the entire video today. Very good production overall and totally worth getting if you're thinking about doing your own rear end overhaul. Complete disassembly, inspection, and reassembly. Took some of the more complex concepts (setting pinion depth/backlash, etc.) and made them easy to understand. I ordered my rebuild kit on Ebay and will attempt this in a couple weeks. I'll probably get his 8.8" video when I regear my Mustang in the future.
