Cab Removal

I got the wild idea the other night since I already have my front clip off of my 67 and the motor is coming out to take the cab off and bed too and then sand, paint and undercoat the frame so I get a good foundation to start from. What all do I need to do to get the cab off?? There is no interior parts left in it right now. It cant be to incredibly hard. Thanks

No problem!Just 4 bolts holding the cab on.Two under the gas tank behind the seat and two on the floor in front of the seat.To get the steering column unhooked just take the pinch bolt out where the shaft goes into the gearbox and the column can stay right in the cab.Just make sure all of your chassis wires are unhooked before picking up the cab.I took the cab off my 71 with chain falls,it worked good.Just run a 6x6 through the windows and pick er right up.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Jan-02 AT 06:53 PM (EST)] You actually access the front bolts through two "inspection" plates on the lower front corners of the cab (outside front).

Don't forget the emergency brake cable and the fuel line from the tank down through the floor.

I remove all my cabs using an engine hoist. I remove the doors (for balance), push the hoist in through one door, hook straps from the hook out through the doors to the front and rear of the cab and 'hoist'. It really works well and I can put the cab where I want it (in a trailer, out back, etc.),

Are you sure that running a 6x6 through the windows wont bend my doors and the top of the cab??? Cuz thats the last thing I want it so bend up the really strait cab that I have on this pickup. Can you put something under the cab to lift it? It seems like that would be alot less damage prone. I have never done anything like this before.

The 3 buddies and 12 beers system works well for me. The 24 beer system works even better. Get as much weight as possible out of it first. Personally, I would not lift a cab from the roof or doors. I'm sure it's been done many times but I'm not that lucky.

I think Ill go with the beer and buddy system. Seems safer for the cab than lifting through the doors and risk bending somthing.

Thanks

Cab Removal

Nitro I have lifted off quite a few cabs and have always done it by using a ratchet strap going through both windows with the doors on the truck and with everything in the cab. Just don't tighen the strap too tight or it will dent the roof of the cab. I use a chain hoist to lift the cab that i hung from a 4x6 thats attached between 2 trees. The strap will stretch but has no problem lifting the cab. I have never had any problems doing this, and it works very well.

The cabs really not that heavy, so I doubt that you would bend it lifting with a 6x6. Four people can lift and move one with no trouble though, I would go that route if I were you.
