mustang 2 clip

so i heard that a pinto suspension is the same as the mustang 2. If so what years do i need to look for. i thought i read somewhere 74 and up. If true....... would a 1980 work? i might be able to get an 80 on ebay thats close to where i live.

Hi Brian, Welcome to FTE The best truck show on the net!

I read your bio, and I suppose you are looking to work on the 61. AFAIK, the Pinto & Mustang front ends are different. The Mustang front end is much lighter weight (The Pinto even lighter) and is not found on any Ford trucks.

Ther are members here that have done that and will be along shortly to help you out.

While a popular choice for Street Rodders at one time, the M-II front suspension isn't that spectacular. It's really too light for use in a truck, IMO. I would look towards the Aerostar clip if I were you. They are more plentiful, built heavier, have better brakes, better suspension geometry, etc.

Pintos are the same but different, are lighter duty as noted and should not be used on something as heavy as these trucks.

The MII set ups today aren't really like a Mustang II they are just similar in design. They are much beefier than the OEM stuff.

Do you plan on showing your 61 or just a work horse? that will determine what to do with the front. the MII will allow you to bag it and still give all the benefits of disc brakes and better suspension. I was'nt going to bag mine (64 f100 long bed) but I did want to lower it, so I went with a Volare front but the ones listed on previous posts are just as good. plan ahead and you'll do alright good luck.

Just to add some thought; back around the first of the year Kenny (moderator for) the 48-60 posted a Front Suspension Alternative tech article; I'm sure his comments will help one decide on a front clip for even 61's & up.
Just a thought.

To answer the original question. YES the 74-80 Pinto suspension and the 74-78 Mustang suspension are the exact same. Would be alot of work to use on a 60's truck.

Why would it be a lot a work? Wrong width?
