I have a 2001 psd f-350 and it started to not shift correctly. It wouldn't shift out of 1st while under acceleration, but if you let off it would shift fine. The low clutches were black the intermediate friction clutches were gone and my drive and o/d clutches were black also. It was also running hot 200-300 deg for obvious reasons. So i rebuilt my tranny and put in a transgo tugger kit, a better converter lock up valve, and a .427" pressure modulater in it. It still doesn't want to shift until it almost 3200-3400 rpm's then when it does shift it doesn't know what to do. it feels like it goes from 1st to drive then downshifts back to 2nd and if you accelerate to much it will downshift back into first at 3400 rpm's and start the shifting process all over. If i shift it manually it does fine until i put it back in drive. any help would be appriciated. I reset my computer after i rebuilt it, also my o/d light still flashes sometimes. I'm wondering if maybe one of my sensors or solenoid pack is going out.
How does the nuetral saftey switch tell the transmission which gear to shift into when it's in drive? I have an extra so i'll try it.I don't understand how it could control it.
I changed it, still the same problem's. i cleaned all the connections and checked to make sure they were good. It goes into drive then it doesn't know want to shift out of 1st when it does it feels like it goes to drive then back to 2nd. With how bad my intermediate clutches were burned it;s almost like they are trying to engage all the time.
I recently had trouble with mine not wanting to shift into 3rd. You could get it there but you had to play with the throttle a little. It was the solenoid pack. I would suspect that first. I think that the gear is selected based on how much pressure the solenoids allow the shift valves. If you had one faulty shift solenoid and it went on too long it would surely screw the transmission up.
I recently had the solenoid pack on my 2002 F-350 SRW S/D diesel replaced by the dealer, my O/D light was flashing after they just replaced the T/C and it was diagnosed as a bad solenoid pack, I have the 4R100 and have since installed a Mag Hytec tranny pan and Banks tranny temp gauge
Ok, i replaced the solenoid pack still same problem. Doesn't shift out of 1st until it's at 3200-3400 rpm's and it shifts into drive then downshifts back into 2nd then back into 1st if the accelerator is down far enough. If i let off the throttle it will shift when i let off. It's the same if i gradually accelerate or am really on it. Any more suggestion's?

Did you replace the mechanical diode when it was rebuilt? You have the classic symptoms of a failed mechanical diode.
I replaced the mechanical diode at 36,700 miles then this time at 69,000 miles the sprag fell apart when i took it out so i put in a new heavy duty sprag. The intermediate friction clutches that were on that sprag were completly worn down to the steel.
