I Looked Up My Trade-in Value For My 05 Fx4 And It Seems That It Has Dropped Since This Family Care Plan Came Out. But It Seems To Me You Can Get A 29,000 Dollar Truck Now, Which Was 36,000 In Feb., Why Not Try To Trade.
I just traded my 04 in for an 05 - price was right given I had 30k on my last truck and was able to take most of my accessories off before trade-in. Still cost some money but given the amount of miles I had on it I think I came out ok... I think it all depends on how much dealers are willing to give on trade in - as I think right now many are discounting it significantly.
I did try this! My lariat 4x4 Screw, paid 30,500 a plan 10 months ago, was offered 24,500. It was explained to me, and as I assumed due to the cheap new trucks the trade in values also drop. I decided to keep the truck, and purchase another one.
I get a new truck every 10-12 months, I did trade that exact truck in about a year ago, and got 28,500. Same milage and options. So about a 4k dollar drop. I assume that it would be a great buyers market for private sale 04-05 trucks, it would put my truck at about 26-27k private sale. A great price at price for 10 months old 39k dollar truck.
Am I the only one concerned with the falling vales of these trucks? Surprising as it is a new model and all. I can't remember the pre-04 trucks ever having this fall.
Trade in values are crazy. My '04 Fx4 scab trades for 23ish on kbb, 20ish on edmonds and 27ish on nada. It stickered for just under 37. Them and gas companies are killing us!
i agree with ya 100% firemut, but there's nothin' you can do but buy more gas. and i dont blame ford for the employee pricing, after chevy done the deed, they had no choice.
Its a double edged sword guys, you buy a truck with a MSRP of 36k for 28k. But now the trade in value is lowered as well to say 24k. You guys need to just forget about what the MSRP value is, and focus on what the true value is, then compare it to the trade in value. A truck that sold for 28k and has a trade in value of 24k is about right. Now if your stuck on "my truck MSRP is 37k and they only give me 24k on trade in" is gonna dissappoint you. Also what bothers me is the fact that the private vehicle sells market will suffer. I mean who would buy a used vehicle when you can buy a new one for a grand or two more? As result its difficult to sell these vehicles rather than trade them in. Either way you will more than likely lose money when performing a trade in. I can tell you that Ford will start selling these used vehicles at a mass rate very soon. Look for used vehicle promotions soon. Ford tried to screw me on a trade in, I said F u and sold mine myself for over double what they offered me.

I have never traded a car/truck in in my life. Whatever they will give you is less than they think you can sell it for in a week. A lot less. And a new truck will sell on the private market because they can get financing on it from about anyone.
Trading in is a great deal. For the dealer.

I typically always sold my trucks outright, then bought a new one. This past time, I found there to be very little action on 04-05 ford trucks. In AZ, you are not taxed on the amount of your trade in on your new trucks deal. So, when you add that tax break on top what the trade in allowance is, it isn't that bad of a deal.
I agree though that the hardest hit on the trucks will be taken by the end user, yes ford is making less, the dealer is making less, but the buyer is who really gets stuck in a bad situation.
I can't remeber it ever being this bad on all the pre-04 trucks I owned, maybe the market was just a lot more stable, and with all makers going into some heavy discounts it just sent the who market into the crapper. I did just hear that there was a dramtic upturn in the new car market this past year, Makes one really worry about how long it will take to "restabilize" the market.

Good luck...my 04 $30K STX is now worth (11 months later) $16K according to the 4 dealers I tried to trade it to. They're selling 04 STX 4X4 with 12k on them in my area for $18K
