1999 F150 DTC Code p0401 & p1151

I got a friend of mine to hook my truck up to his computer and it came out with P0401 and P1151. I have been reading many post on here but have never seen one with both of these codes on one reading. My engine light has been on for months now but my truck just recently started performing badly. Should I try cleaning the EGR valve as recommended with the 1151 code? Could it be one or more of my catalytic converters is bad?

Mike

I would check the EGR port in the intake behind the throttlebody. It may be clogged.
The other code shoes that either the O2 sensor has failed or the wiring to it has been damaged and it isn't recieving any feedback from the sensor to the PCM. If the EGR ports are clean, the DPFE (EGR) sensor is probably bad. With the P1151 code, the PCM may be running in limp mode which will really kill performance.

most of the time with the o2 code that means that you have an o2 sensor that has failed internaly and if you replace it, it will solve the problem. For the egr code, there is a solenoid that controls how much vacuum is applied to the egr valve, controlling how far open it is. it has a green and red vacuum hose coming from it and will be visible above your fuel rail on the driver side of the vehicle towards the front of the engine. Also hooked to it are three wires, if you ground the brown wire with a test light it will fully open your egr valve and will either bogg the engine down or kill it. If this happens then your egr passages are clear and you need to replace you dpfe, if it does nothing then your passages are clogged up. Very rarely does the egr valve itself fail but that is also possible. doing nothing can also mean other things as well but do this first.
