2000 Explorer Horn & Cruise Won't Work

Both my horn and cruise control don't work. Is this due to a faulty multifunction switch and if so, how does one fix the problem?
thanks

I believe they both use the same fuse. Start there first.

I agree, look in your owners manual & see if they are both wired to the same fuse.

Could also be a broken clockspring.

Have you got a wiring diagram?

Thanks. I've double checked all the fuses and none of them is broken. The owner's manual has no indication as to which fuse is for the horn. How do I check the clockspring? No, I have no wiring diagram.

Thats a pretty useless owners manual, if it does'nt even tell you which fuses are wired to which accessories.

The way you check for a bad fuse (normally) is to look in the owners manual & if everything thats wired to a particular fuse is NOT working then you check the fuse.

I dont have a wiring diagram for yours either, but my guess is that it has a clockspring under the steering wheel air bag, & it might be broken.

Dont mess with it if you dont have a manual that tells you how to disarm the airbag.

Have you checked the fuses under the hood?

Thank you so very much - I had never looked under the hood for fuses. Problem fixed.

Not for sure on the Explorers, but I did have a broken clockspring on a vehicle one time. My airbag light came on and I could hear a click when I would turn the wheel around. If you have these symptoms, go get it fixed right away. I was told that a broken clockspring wouldn't hurt anything for a couple of days until I could get into the shop, then when parking at the Home Depot my airbag went off. Costly lesson to learn. Oh yeah, the horn and cruise were not working at the same time.

OUCH, that would sure ruin your whole day.

Did you find out what caused it to go off?
