The 04 Explorer i bought is Capable of using Flexible Fuel (I only use regular unleaded, we don't have the ethonal mix around here). The question i have is are the computers de-tuned just incase you use something other than regular unleaded? I have a sticker under that says something about the computer. I can get the code from the sticker if that helps...

Theres a sensor in the fuel line that tells the computer which fuel you are using. The computer adjusts accordingly.

Does your owners manual say anything about this?

 

Not really. It has very little info on the subject. There is a sticker under the hood that says the PCM has been modified. It also has a # on the sticker if that helps.

Might have been a "technical service bulletin" for the original PCM & the dealer has swapped it.

Click on "recalls & technical service bulletins" at www.alldata.com, then enter the info for your truck & see what you come up with.

If all else fails, check with the dealer.
