Vin Number

Last Year I Purchased A 1937 Ford Panel Truck That Needs To Be Restored. The Front-end Was Chopped Off And A Mustang Ii Front-end Was Installed. The Vin Number Was Also Destroyed On The Firewall. The City Wants To Tow It Away And Destroy It As Junk. I Need The Vin Number So I Can Get A Restoration Tag And Then They Can't Touch It. Is There Another Place Where The Vin Could Be? Desperate. Thanks. It Did Not Have A Title.

Try looking on the frame rails. Left front, top side, within 24' of the front horn. Or, left side mid way inside of top rail. Take a wire wheel to the frame to view it better. OR, PFA it!

There were sometimes another VIN stamped on the rails...but those were undfer the body, so you may have to remove the body to find them...certainly not easy nor fun to do on a panel body. Another option, is one of thoes places that sells titles to old vehicles...usually in states like Missouri. It may at least give you a VIN that they will accept, even if it is from out of state. Where you live? That is one harsh city you live on that requires you to have a VIN on a project vehicle.

Thanks For The Info. If It Was Inside It Would Be No Big Deal. But It Has To Set Out Until I Get The 67 Mustang Done For Now.

Thanks. By Having The Vin # I Can Get A Restoration Tag To Put On The Windshield Then The City Will Leave Me Alone. Other Wise I May Have To Get Rid Of It. Too Much Already Invested In It To Do That. Just Need To Borrow A Vin # For Now Until I Have It Built Then Wil Get A Certified Vin.

Do you have the original tranny? '37 would have the vin on the bellhousing flange of the tranny. If it was a V8 it would have an 18- followed by seven digits.
