Testing Clockspring.

98 F150 XLT.

I beleive I have a faulty clock spring.

How can I test it?

Is it simply an "IN" and "OUT" wiring harness where I can check continuity on each terminal?

Thanks.

Edit: It's $78.49 for a new one so I want to make sure that's the problem before buying one.

Hello,

If your clockspring is the same as on mine '93 Econoline, then it's easy to check.
Disconnect both sides of the clockspring, and you can check each contact.
The clockspring is nothing more than a kind of flatcable with 2 connectors.
Mine was broken a few years back, i've opened the housing removed the flatcable, it was broken at the connector, opened the connector and soldered the flatcable back on.
Also, cleaned the housing and cable, and straightend the cable, i haven't used any type of greasing, because i think that's the problem, the layers stick together.
I've opened the clockspring a few months back for a check and everything is looking good.

By the way i'm thinking of making the flatcable double layer, so i can ad extra functions/buttons tho the wheel.

Thanks, that helps alot.

I'll take it out, test it and if it's bad then I'll try opening it up and fix it before buying a new one.

Well, do that, if you'r a bit handy, you'll fix it.
Taking the clockspring out of the column gives you more problems then fixing it!
