Steering Problems

I replaced the steering coupling on my 75 F100. After putting everything back together, I have hard steering and a MAJOR drag at two points in the steering wheel rotation. Also. is the steering shaft supposed to have some slide to it?

i cant be sure about the cause of your drag but i do know the shaft is made to slide in and out. this keeps the flex of the frame and body from pulling something apart or breaking. Eddie II

Thanks, i thought of that and tried sliding the shaft in and out and it would not move even after taking and hammer and punch to it. NO MOVEMENT. May have to buy another shaft.

Is this a 2wd or 4x4? The 2wd column shaft is solid and will not slide.

Its a 4wd. The shaft does slide but i think that it is "jamed" in some way.

The top half of the u-joint flexes fine, but has a slight tightness to the bottom half of the joint. It only has a u-joint on the top of the shaft.
