96 ford explorer 5.0 aode tranny shudders while shifting
I have a 96 explorer, 5.0 liter v8, with an AODE tranny.
I brought it to a transmission repair ship and they said that my Troque converter failed and that is why my transmission failed.
Needless to say they are saying 2K for repairs on it.
New rebuilt tranny, and torque converter.
If this possible that the torque converter make the tranny fail, and if so could it actually physically damage the tranny where I needed parts for the tranny and the rebulid ?
I dont have a clue about my vehicles, and Hate dealing with repair people. I always feel they are screwing me over because of my not knowing about vehicles.
ANy info on this would be great.
Thanks!!

Before spending that kind of money I'd have the transmission fluid changed. Most quick lube places have a machine that exchanges the transmission fluid. It should cost about $60 - $120. Make sure they use MERCON V fluid. If the converter isn't too bad this will sometimes fix the problem.
could parts of the torque converter get into the transmission and cause damage. That is what The place is telling me. Is it possible for that to happen ?
It is possible. Usually when a torque converter develops shudder the friction material has glazed, not fallen off. So most likely you have a glazed converter that didn't send parts through the transmission, but on the other hand, they've seen the trans and I have not.
