AOD Transmission Swap

I have a 1988 Bronco with 5.0 302V8. My transmission just went out on me last night. I was able to find a remanufactured tranny that is Dana tested with a 12month, 12,000 mile warranty. The question I have is , will this be a simple replacement ? or is this something I need to have a certified mechanic do ? I have replaced and changed out most parts on my own, but have never attempted to replace a transmission. This Remanufactured AOD tranny comes with a rebuilt torque converter also.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how I could perform this swap out myself, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JohnnyO

AOD Transmission Swap

What transmission do you currently have in the truck? Replacing the transmission is no more complicated than replacing the radiator; it's just heavier & harder to get to. You just unbolt the d'shafts, t-case, fluid lines, shift linkage, TV cable, torque converter, & crossmember, then unbolt the bellhousing and slide it back and lower it. The exhaust will hold the engine up. When you reinstall it, make SURE the torque converter is refilled and FULLY installed on the input shaft, and that it's rotated to line up with the flexplate again.

AOD Transmission Swap

Its an AOD. The place I found the tranny from in Phoenix is only 475.00 plus a 110.00 for shipping, considering the amount the locals here in Dallas tried charging me (1200-1500) for a rebuild, I would say I found a pretty awesome deal. Is there a manual I could purchase that would help me out with the tranny swap ? Any Special tools I'll need ?

This is the link to their shop online if anyone is in need of a reman trans also. I've read good things from customers about them, they have over 300 feedbacks from their online business, no negatives.
