84' Ranger 2.8 tip-in stalling probs

Hello, I have just swapped a 2.8 out of an '84 Ranger w/auto trans into an '84 Ranger w/ manual trans and now have it running. The only major problem I am having is that the engine has a terrible tendency to stall out when it is cold, and once it is warm it always stalls right off of idle, just when the butterflys tip in. When you let back off and go at it again, it seems to be okay. I have checked the accelerator pump, timing, and my connections. Are any of the components differently equipped for auto vs. manual (carb, dist., etc), and also would removing the air pump system completely and plugging the manifold holes have anything to do with this prob... I am terribly unfamiliar with the feedback carb setup and am a little perplexed. Any insight as to where to start looking for probs would be greatly appreciated, Buck

Does the distributor on that truck have a vaccum advance? You should check to see if the hose going to the distributor from the spark port on the carb isn't leaking or pinched off anywhere. I'm not 100% certain, but I think a lack of vaccum advance will contribute to the problem you're having.
