My father has always bought a ford for 30 years until now. Its a big shock when all he owned was fords until now. He got a new dodge with a cummins, he thought fords where getting too expensive and wanted to try something new.

 

But, in the end, for every ford guy who goes to dodge, there's a dodge guy that goes to Ford. They both build good trucks and I'm sure he'll be happy with it.

 

I couldn't agree more. I've owned cars from many manufacturers and they were all good. I own Ford now, owned Chrysler last, and who knows what I'll pick next time.

Sounds like a nice truck. If I was going to buy a new truck it would be a Dodge. But I'd never sell my '79

 

Hey, Cummins is a good engine, and it's not a bad reason to pick a truck. It's all about which manufacturer is building vehicles people want, and which ones they can afford.

 

Ford uses Cummins in a lot of their big trucks; I have two...so you still have that bit of a connection there.

Everybody has made something good and something bad. I can understand the price thing. But I still want a F-350 crewcab long box dually PSD. But I want to pay the Dodge price. I think the only vehcile that was never any good would be the Pacer.

i was shocked when my dad stopped getting stick shift and went to automatics, i know its due to arthritis issues, but he was such a dyed-in-the-wool std trans person that i never dreamed he would own a automatic. i didnt like autos myself until we got a '77 F250 4x4 for a farm truck and it had a C-6. got a snowplow kit on it and i do beleive for snowplowing duty at least a slushbox is worth having, though i do prefer a gearbox anything else. he also has a S-10 blazer for a "runnabout" vehicle. at least he hasnt gone to dodge, dont think he will though, he put in 28 years for the phone company and had to drive a dodge van daily, that'll cure you from going mopar!

 

theres a reason why the dodge is cheaper, hence the old saying "you get what you pay for". i know a guy right now thats trying to sell his 04 ram to get a new ford. he said he should have bought a ford in the first place and it would have been cheaper to buy than the dodge.

 

One thing you should know about Dodges, is their weak point is the automatic transmission. It is good for 60-80k and then sudden failure. Rebuilds cost $2500 min,. plus install.

My former boss's 1999 Dodge 3500 4x4 DRW with the Cummings diesel just died. After doing the fuel filter to get it running and running the codes, comes back bad fuel injector pump *the controller board and the pressure valve.

Brand new price $3000 and the rebuilt is $1975. Truck only has 220k and is on its fourth transmission. Another person I know had a Dodge 1500, transmission went at 60k, she went out and bought another Dodge, a "Rumble Bee". Truck does look sweet, though I think I rather have an ugly truck with a C-6

My advice would be do ALL the fluids every 20k and the fuel filter every 12k. It is $30, but, considering the cost of the pump I think it is worth it.

 

in 2000, when i decided the wife had to have a new vehicle, i went to the ford lot 1st. after the sticker shock wore off & i could walk again without assistance, i went next-door the dodge lot which is part of the same dealership.imagine my surprise to see prices 3 to 6 thousand less than fords.up until this point i have never owned anything but a ford, but those prices made me mad. so, i got the ram 1500 with magnum v8 and havn't had a minute of trouble. by the way, my '79 f150 & '79 bronco will never leave my side. those were built when quality really was job 1.
