In my joy over getting a "Buy it now" on eBay for a complete locking hood kit for only $29 (OEM NOS!) I failed to realize it was for a 79 Ford VAN. The cable is too short for the pickup. Figures!
I can use the hood latch and mounts, but the cable is too short. If I decide to have a custom cable made at the local bike shop, (a few bucks), how long do I have them make it? If anyone wants to trade for a perfect Van unit, let me know too!
Also, anyone got pictures of where the cable comes through the firewall and how it routes to the hood mechanism? I couldn't find pictures of this anywhere.
I went and looked at mine.
It just comes through a hole in the firewall and comes up along the top inside of the fender, then through a hole by the rad and up to the latch.
Its nothing fancy its just kinda stuck wherever it fits.
Thanks Vin and Mil. I found the plugged hole on my firewall where your cable goes through. How about a picture where it routes around the fender and through the radiator support?
Someone else mentioned (in the search) that they went to a bicycle shop to get a longer cable but I think that requires the black sheath to be the correct length. I'll just have to hit a junk yard or two to see if I can find the right one now.
The cable runs along the corner of the inner fender then through one of the holes in the rad support so that it is lines up with the latch without a bend in it.
The cable should have hold downs on the inner fender.
