1994 F150 automatic shifts hard

1994 F150, 300 6 cylinder, automatic transmission almost "bang" shift on my way to work every morining. In the afternoon it is much better.

What can I do to fix this?

Do you have a tach in your truck? Perhaps your idle is higher in the am(cold).

I don't have a tach, but every time it shifts, it shifts very hard; even when shifting into overdrive. After it warms up it's okay.

If the trans is the E4OD (Overdrive on/off switch on shifter) you need to replace the Manual Lever Position Sensor (aka Neutral Safety Switch). The part costs $36.99 from AutoZone and takes about 5 minutes to install. I just replaced this switch on my trans a few days ago and it now shifts like a brand new truck.

Well I guess it could be that... but I was thinkin more on the lines of something like a speed sensor.

That sensor is located right on the side of the transmission, where the linkage hooks up.

there is also a Service bulletin out
explaining that the ground for this switch can also be the problem
And it suggests that a splice be added to the ground wire,and running it to the negative side of the battery for a good ground.
(to solve this hard shifting.)
I got this info from a service garage, as mine was doing the same.
I have no idea where the splice goes, but the garage fixed it for me,
So I'm good to go.
