My father has a 1994 F150, 5.0 Automatic, it downshifts out of overdrive, cruise control set at 65, with the slightest hill, wind gust or thought and then back again, repeatedly. It is very aggravating, we took it to a shop, all they could tell us was to clean a sensor in the rear axle, no help there... Please help.
Sorta depends on gearing, tires, how well the engine performs.
My 302, .040 over, 1.7 Crane Cobra roller rockers, Comp Cam RV, with 31x10.5 tires, 3.55 gearing, 4wd, AOD trans does do some downshifting on wind gust and inclines. That's just how my brick rolls..
Have you checked for codes? Last known tune-up? How is the timing? Have you looked into how to bump the timing up some, maybe 12° or 14° BTDC? Open the gap up a little to like .056 or .060 on some copper plugs?

This isn't a transmission issue, it is an issue with low engine power.
