Now that I've got my motor running I've begun to look into stroker kits...
The 347 is nice, but doesn't seem to be a reliable motor for moe then 20,000
This has made me look at 331 stroker kits...but how would a 331 motor behave in a pickup truck? Would I have good fun with it, or should I save some of my duckies and look into a 393?
The early 347 strokers were known for short street lives, however due to piston/ring packaging and more rod lengths available, they have a good service life now. If you can, go with the 393. Theres no replacement for displacement!!!
Do a search and there was a thread on a 331 stroker awhile ago, I don't know what became of the project.
go 393, just no comparison if you have the choice. the 331 is a nice motor for sure so is the 347 but if all 3 were sitting on the ground to choose from it would be the 393.
that truck is nice in that thread for sure. its amazing what a blower can help out with though

If I were to get a 302 for an engine swap, and If I coulnd't get the stroker kit, what would I have my mechanic do in order to "stroke" it? i.e. use a 351W crank and rods?, what else... thanks...
Actually you can't use the 351w internals in the 302. About the only option you would have would be to offset grind the stock crank and use the appropriate rods and pistons. You might be suprised, the cost of an introductory (cast) stroker kit will come very close $$$$$ wise to having this kind of work done. I would say you would be better off holding out, saving up and getting the stroker kit, or just get a 351w. Good luck with what ever you end up with.
There are some benefits to stroking a 302 over the 351w, the 302 is about 70+/- lbs lighter (in stock longblock form) and has smaller mains, which less area means it should allow the engine to wind up quicker, but I will stick to my 351w's larger, slower and stronger mains. Who knows? Good luck

Those are some cheap kits. to bad they didnt offer a 393 kit. the 408 is a bit much for my blood.
They don't offer a 393 kit? Hmmmm, seems I saw one listed one time or another, maybe that was somewhere else, maybe if you contact them direct they can let you know if they have one in stock just not listed, who knows? They do have some pretty good prices, there is a fella on this site that purchased the 331 kit I believe, seemed to like it, then again didn't say much about it, later
i am always hesitant about low price engine kits , not saying these ones are a bad product but most kits out there run a grand easy. I would have to hear what others experiences have been with this company.
