Ok, got an electric fan. One made for rangers and b2's 1984-97, 4cy&6cy models. I have 6 cyl (4.0L) ranger, year 1994, so it fits into this catagory. I took out the stock fan and clutch, and now the flex a lite is too wide! when i put it up against the radiator, the fan blade touches the water pump pulley, and the post the blade spins on also interferes with the water pump pully. What should i do?

Some kits I have seen are capable of being a "push" or "pull" depending on how you set them up. Can you set it up to be a "push" type mounted on the other side of the radiator or condenser? What fan kit do you have, and where did you get it? Just an idea.

I have heard the 16" High-Performance Perma-Cool (p/n 19115) works good on the 3.0, you might want to try a different fan. I think you'll need a high cfm for a pusher.

I got it at summit racing, and its made to be a puller on my truck. It came with custom mounting brackets for my truck to be mounted as a puller. It is a puller. I have the FLX-40. I'm going to be extreeemly angry if i have to return this dumb thing. Is there anyway i can get more space between the radiator and the engine? Like is it possible to move the radiator farther from the engine?

I don't think you can, have you called the manufacturer, maybe there's a trick.

I wont be able to get ahold of anyone till monday. called summit, they said call flex-a-lite. So, since i allready had my mechanical fan out, i was bound and determined to make it work. So i just put some spacers between the mounting bracket and the actual fan motor, to move it back, and now it fits, its a TIGHT squeeze, but it fits. Theres probably less than an 1/8th of an inch between the middle of the fan and the middle of the pully.

One thing i noticed while doing this, i opened my hood, and there was more green stuff than i have ever seen. It has to be radiator coolant, I thought it was a/c refridgerent with a green dye, since it was all over the compresser before, but now its all over everything. The new fan, the battery, the belt, the pullies, everything. I have checked out the hoses and all seem to be fine. but i cant find out for the life of me where this stuff is coming from. The underneath of the water pump looked dry. Are there any common weak points where this would occur, or is it just one of those random things?

That isn't random!
Hose the engine down & if you have compressed air, blow it dry.
Fill the rad right to the top and leave the cap off. If you spill any, clean it up right away.
The dripping coolant should lead you to where the leak is.

Also remember that the coolant will travel towards the rear from the fans air flow.

Is it possible that the coolant is dripping on the serpentine belt somehow, because its not anywhere behind the pully assembly, and theres some on the fan shroud, but nothing on the radiator. The spread of coolant doesnt really go from the front to the back of the engine, but it goes from side to side in the engine compartment, right above the pully assembly. When you prop the hood up, theres a green line of the stuff pretty much from the left side of the hood to the right side of the hood in a strait line. Also, i drove the truck today and there was nothing green at all under the hood. I started to think of what i did differently, i remembered that i didnt run the a/c and i never used the defrosters. So now i'm starting to wonder if it really isnt a/c refridgerent. AHHHH i'm so confused.

P.S. the electric fan works wonderfully. I can actually feel a gain in power, and it seems to keep the engine pretty cool, but its probably 50 degrees out now, so the real test is going to come when its hot!

Could coolant be leaking out of the radiator and getting flung around by the fan onto the condensor, pullies, hood, etc.?

Check the radiator again very carefully, especially where the end tanks are crimped to the core.

And while you're at it, check the T-stat housing, where the upper radiator hose goes into the upper intake.

P. S. Good job adapting the fan to fit.

Sounds like Rockledge could be on to something. Peter94 is this one of those kits that you have to mount the fans through the radiator face (what kit is it on Summit?). Is it possible that you punctured a tube on the radiator? It doesn't take much. I once broke a few fins/tubes on a radiator when I droped a wrench and it just bounced off the water pump and barley hit the radiator. DOH! And the only thing that is a green liquid under the hood is the anti-freeze. If I am not mistaken, a/c coolant is a gas with no color.

You said that you drove around the other day and saw nothing (but it was cold out). I can only think this is possible if you have a leak in a hose and the thermostat didn't fully open. Then the hoses wouldn't be under full pressure. I have had hoses before that would only leak when under full pressure. So it was leaking while moving, but when I stopped you couldn't really see where it was coming from. Keep us posted.

Did you check the rubber overflow tube on the Radiator?. Mine came off onetime and when it warmed up and pushed coolent back towards the overflow tank, it ran down on the fan and went everywhere.
