Just installed my new wireless keyboard and mouse and they are awesome. It's microsoft brand that we got at Costco for $60. Pretty fast and so smooth. I'm reccommending it if you're looking for one.
I have had the same unit since before Christmas. Haven't had to change a battery yet and I spend a lotta time online. It has some minor quirks, but I still love it.
I've been enjoying the wireless package for about 1 1/2 years now. I'd never go back. It's good to see they revised the mouse to increase battery life; the previous model mouse was a bit hard on batteries. However, that was easily corrected with rechargeable batts . The batteries in the keyboard must last forever; I've never replaced them.

Are you using dial up or broadband. The reason I ask is that I tried a wireless mouse and after a while I noticed I was having problems with my dial up. I would get what I call death pauses where the modem would be downloading and suddenly pause for about 45 seconds. Worked with the ISP and found I was getting errors. Could not figure out why. This went on for a couple of months. Started having problems with the wireless mouse, and had to switch back to a wired mouse. Suddenly no more death pauses. Notified my ISP and they had not heard of a problem with a wireless mouse, but had problems with wireless keyboards and other wireless devices. This was the first they had heard of. Stayed with wired and did not have any more problems. Now on broadband, but think I will stay wired.
I went wireless while using dialup then moved to cable. No issues like what you described, but you do have to install the receiver as instructed. Just because the receiver is equipped with a USB connection does not mean it will work. I had to use the adapter on my new PC.
Haven't had any problems like that, but i've only had internet (of my own) for a month. I live pretty far out of town, but was able to get DSL. It has it's quirks, don't know if it's because we're so far out or what. The damned help guide for this keyboard is hard to understand, every button I press brings up MSN! I'll figure it out sooner or later.
I think what was happening on mine was the radio signals were somehow interfering with the chips on the modem. Never heard of anything like that before, but weirder things have happened.
