Best use for a Chevy truck in winter?
My old 4WD Chevy got our Bronco out of the snow yesterday...
...My wife stood on my truck to clean the snow off the Ford!
Wish I had a picture of that, it made a good statement. (Chevy is still sitting in the parking lot, BTW. Still covered too. You can tell where the love is here.)
The first winter I had my truck, I went around a corner and hit some ice., sliding across into the lane of an oncoming car, who was also sliding. I reached down and yanked it onto four wheel drive, straightened the wheel and tromped it up over the curb and into some nice deep hard packed snow. The truck still had a set of the tires it came with and didn't have much for digging ability, so there I sat for all the world to giggle at. ( But no dents or fender bender!)
Well, along comes a young man in his rusted out and beat up Chevy. He calmly stops, gets out...I was out shoveling like mad to free the tires ... and he offers me a tug. Well, I was getting pretty fried digging like mad, so I graciously accepted his offer. He was in the driveway of the land owner it was dry and he still had a good time getting me out all the way even with me in 4 wheel and gassing it too.
Well, the kid was nice... he didn't even razz me. So I told him I owed him one and we parted friendly.
I had a Chevy pull my Bronco out one day also--well, sorta.
The lake by my house was down low, exposing an old paved road once used before the dam went in several years ago. I drove down the road and was checking out deer/elk tracks in the muddy lake bed. On my way back, I was just chugging along in first gear and decided to go around a deep, sharp pothole that took up much of the road rather than take the jarring plunge into it like I did when I came in. The mud was much deeper and softer on the sides of the road than I had expected and the left front wheel sank below the hub in less than a foot from leaving the pavement. The rear Detroit locker was not enough to back out even though the right side of the Bronco was still on the pavement. So I crawled out of the passanger side and locked in the hubs which was a task in itself on the left side and tried it again in 4-wheel, (that is true 4-wheel since I had the ARB air locker engaged in the front also), but that wasn't enough either, gust got me deeper in the mud on the left.
So I walked a few hundred yards away and asked some guy fishing if he could pull me out. He said no problem and drove his 2wd stepside down to the scene and I hooked my winch cable to his hitch. We were both trying to move forward and even though both of his rear tires and both of my right tires were on the pavement, we no movie. He killed his engine several times in the effort.
Afraid that he might break something on his truck, I finally told him to just leave his brakes on as I slowly drug myself out of the goo by winding the winch in and letting the tires just churn away in low range. So the way I see it, Chevys make great anchors, nothin' more.
I had to be nice to the chevys.. I had 4 guys that i would wheel with.. 2 blazers, a ram 2500 and a k10... the only ford and the only big block... My GF's stepdad had a nice suburban...
I have NEVER had to rely on a chevy. Never been stuck, and if I ever do get stuck, I can get a yank from family 4x4's. I also carry tire chains for that reason.
Ive pulled a couple of chevys out with my f-150. Yesterday I had to pull out my dads 99 F-250 PSD 2WD out because it slid off the neighbors drive way into the snow it wouldnt do nuthing but spin so I had to pull him out with my f-150 on an idle but thats 460 power for ya
Well, I got into a tugawar with a chevy and my F-250. It was not even a tugawar. I won. Draged him and his truck across the lake backwards and he for got to close the back window of his truck. It was full of water and best of all I have photos. Will post later. Fell out of trunk laughing and broke my rist. LOL O'WELL I just love my truck.
