Anybody here real familiar with aftermarket PW wiring? I assume most of them are similar but I may need an assist pretty shortly. Would really like to put the PWs behind me now.
Here's the scoop. I got an Electraglide II PW kit last year for Christmas. Went to install it a few months later and noticed there were no bezels for the switches. Contacted Haywire and they sent me new bezels. Wrong ones of course so I sent my switches in for them to match up to bezels. Called them 6 weeks later and they said "Who are you?" Soon after they sent my switches back with bezels that fit. Or so I thought. Started installing them tonight. Went to plug them in and they obviously gave me different switches because they won't plug into my harness.
Good news is the switches are 5 terminal like my harness, but in a totally different arrangement. I have 2 identical rocker switches on the drivers side and one on the passenger side per usual. I did get a schematic with the kit. You just have to remember that blue on the schematic actually means a red wire. Yellow = Brown wire of course. Guess I better take the pencil to the schematic before I even start.
Just venting off at the moment but wondering if we have any gurus on the PW principles in case I get whipped. The motors are two wire and reverse direction when you reverse polarity. I think I would have better luck if I had a clue how the switch accomplishes the polarity reversal. No relays involved. Just three switches and two wire motors.
Everytime I post on another forum, Three people get in a fight and usually 2 of them don't know what the heck they are talking about. I know what I'm getting here. I can figure this out myself but it would be much faster is 'rage of another electrical guru pops by. Hopefully this post will stay near the top until it's noticed.
Go to the auto parts store and find the factory style that matchs yours then get the wiring diagram from a dealer that matchs that switch. That should work i think, but i could be wrong
Thanks guys, I whipped it in a couple hours. Nothing I couldn't figure out with a VOM and my modest knowledge of electronics. That's really not the point though. Change this thread to "Why does the aftermarket and some vendors keep doing this to me?" It's getting a little stale. I don't buy the cheapest parts available, and I do my research as best I can. Then for $300+ I get a PW kit with the wrong switches, bezels and a schematic for something they probably sold 3 years ago and didn't bother to update. I was very patient with the vendor and still no deal. Not to mention custom fabbing motor brackets, but I knew that going in. The box was factory sealed so Haywire didn't cause all of this. Glad it's over!
No Limit is now the only vendor that hasn't sold me any really flakey rodder parts. I'm sure they aren't perfect either, but they are on top in my experience. They make a lot of what they sell and that's a plus. We'll see if I still feel that way after I install their hood kit.
