Front Brake Rotor Replacement

I have a 1999 Super Duty 4 x 4. I want to replace the front rotors myself. I have done numerous cars and a Jeep TJ but never a 4 x 4 Superduty. Usually I loosen two bolts on the caliper, lift the caliper of the rotor, and tap the rotor off the spindle. What is the procedure for a Superduty 4 x 4? Do I mess with the hub? When I compress the disks do I need to be concerned about the AntiLock brakes.? Help

Your intended procedure is how I do my Excursion, which should be the same as the SD. No need to deal with the hubs since the rotors slip over em. Use a plate or block of wood and a large C-Clamp to compress the caliper pistons.

I would also be careful about what rotors you use as replacements. The factory units are notorious for warping. I replaced mine with the ART units, and they seem better than Ford's.

Next time, I'm going to use Performance Friction two piece units. ART uses Performance Friction pads when a customer orders them, and they're the onl;y pads I use.

Regards,

Joe

You can also just use the old pad and a C-clamp. It may be easier to find...

The caliper bolts use Loc-Tite, so they are a PITA to break loose.

If the front rotors have never been off, they might give ya trouble...Spray some WD-40 around the hub. Spray behind the rotor too, let it sit for a while. Then get the baby sledge ready just in case.

Speaking that...you can replace the word "rotor" with "wheel". Sometimes they can be a pain to get off, too!

Use some anti-sieze on the mating surface of the rotor and rim when reinstalling to prevent it in the future.

Good call Monsta...

I remember the first time i took my stock tires/wheel off, what a pain. It took some heavy swinging with a large rubber hammer to get them off. I made sure to put some anti-seize on the hub.
