Rotors
Rotors
Hey all, just bought a '96 Bronco and it needs a brake job, rotors,pads,calipers,etc... I never had a a rotor off a 4x4 before so I have a dumb a** question, do the rotor and hub HAVE to be replaced as a unit? Or can I just buy a rotor and get the old hubs pressed into the new rotor?
You can remove the rotor from the hub after you press (or punch) out the wheel studs. My buddy Scott has a great writeup on another forum: Fullsizebronco.com - How to press rotors without taking them to a machine shop
Very easy to replace rotors yourself. Once you get the rotor/hub assembly off the truck, take a mini sledge and 2-3 good square hits will pound out each wheel stud. with the studs all pounded out, the rotor and hub are 2 pieces, and a couple taps on the old rotor will knock it off the hub. The hardest part about installing the new one is getting the studs fully seated in the new rotor. pound away, and they will go all the way in eventually.
