2004 f250 6.0 powerstroke, while towing a trailer at highway speeds the other day the truck suddenly started to run very rough. ICP suddenly stuck around 1000psi and would drop when reviving the engine. Get the truck home and find codes p0267 (cylinder 3 injector A circuit low) and p0269 (cylinder 3 contribution/balance). Compression sounds good on all cylinders when turning over. I find air bubbles on the dip stick and decide to check how the oil looked when filling up the oil filter housing while cranking. Lots of air bubbles in oil coming into the oil filter housing. Then I take the valve cover and oil rail off of the passenger side to inspect the cylinder 3 injector. I found a slightly burnedlooking pin in the connector, and the rocker arm appeared to have made contact with the injector. The injector hold down was still tight when I removed it. Does anyone have any idea why the rocker arm might have hit the injector? And how screwed am I right now?
Contact is on the lower bolt? The injector is fine, the rocker arm maybe not so much.
You need a valve job and a new harness, you can assume the injector looks the same and if you have a lot of miles on the injectors, then it is a good time to justify an upgrade.
To be clear, despite the reputation of the 6.0 initially, the top end is the only real suspect components of the 6.0 in 2026. Get the top end rebuild and injectors replaced and you can enjoy another 200k miles or a good resale when you are ready..
