I have what I think is a 1969 f100 with the 302 and 3 speed auto. When I put it into drive it lurches but won’t move and the engine really bogs down and starts tuning rough. I replace all the drum breaks all the way around so they aren’t locked up. And I made sure the parking break is disengaged. I recently put a edlebrock preformer rpm intake manifold and edlebrock avs2 4 barrel carb on it because the old carb was junk and the intake manifold was clogged with rats nest. I made sure to clean out the intake runners of all the junk before starting it again. It runs great in park and neutral. I think it might be a vacuum leak or something of that nature. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
First the disclaimer, I'm no mechanic. A cheap but involves some work check might be if you have a couple of jack stands and could get the rear wheels an inch or so off the ground; then try putting it in gear and see what happens. Jacked up there would be minimal load on the drive train, so if it doesn't bog down with the unloaded wheels turning that would seem to support a potential engine issue. If it won't turn unloaded wheels that would seem to point another direction, like drive drain (and I know you did them but brakes, remember the disclaimer . That's assuming it's 2WD.
