I recently pulled the front clip apart on my 64 F100 and found that there is rubber sealant between the inner fenders and the radiator support along with sealant on the bolt heads on the other side. Was this a thing from the factory? I know that I have pulled the front clip off before a couple of times, but I am relatively certain we left it assembled each time. I have taken fenders apart in other vehicles (not 60's Fords) and have never seen this. I could see it being helpful to seal the engine bay and maybe eliminating squeaking which would be nice.
If this is a thing, any suggestions on what I should use?
Not front clip related but they also used butyl to seal the transmission cover to the floor of those with a removable cover. Even the automatic trucks with their small cover to access the front band adjustment. I guess it also applies to the 3 speed manual with overdrive but I haven't been around one of those trucks.
One other place at least that I've seen some butyl. The window regulators where they attach to the inner door inside. Doesn't show that in the MPC. If you want to see exactly how they did that chunk I could probably get a decent picture of it.
