Well guys, I removed my damaged grille shell and installed the replacement fender. Well, the fender fits like a champ! The only problem is that my radiator support is bent about two inches at the bottom were the fender attaches to the support. In order to get the two bottom bolts to attatch I will have to do some bending to get it back to place. Does anyone see a problem with this? Any suggestions on how to approach this? Someone on this forums suggested that my inner fenders could be tweaked because of the collision. So far the inner fenders seem to be fine. I would think that if my inner fenders were damaged or tweaked my outer fenders would not line up. One more thing, is it possible to change out one inner fender without totally removing the radiator support? The left inner fender is rusted out and want to change it out without getting into removing the whole front end of the truck! thanks again for all the feedback!
Someone can correct me on this, but I believe that I read some where on this site that the radiator supports are tapered at the bottom. I would compare it to the other side, unless you are sure it has been bent from a wreck.
78 longbed I did compare it to the other side. I also installed the new fender and when I bolted the fender down, there is a 2 inch gap in between the radiator support and the fender. The two lower bolts that connect the fender to the support cannot be installed due to the bend.
get a big hammer and bang it out. Or, use a cable puller or a come along and a tree. You could also chain it to a tree and back the truck up until it snatches it out.
The inner fender will come out with the radiator support still on the truck. The hood will need to be held up in the back corner though, it's attached to the inner fender. The hood spring to fender bolts have a tendency to deform the box that holds the nut, so you may have trouble with that, if not it'll be a piece of cake.
