51 Window anti-rattle install

Hi all,
I have used up all of my "task avoidance" measures and have proceeded to the doors on my 51 F1 project. Yesterday I started on the window anti-rattler. I am hoping to learn from others what they have run into, My anti-rattle kit is from Vintique. (I often order from NPD as I can pick up nearby and not pay shipping. ) More specifically:
1. I am not impressed with the clips that Vintique uses for the "beltline" pieces. The clips are not very pliable, and either won't go into the holes in the door or they want to fall out. By the way, is it better to put the clips on the piece (positioning critical) and push the piece into the door vs. putting the clips in the door and then lay the piece in place and try to close up the clips?

2. The window channel run that will do most of the work is not bad. However, I am not sure of the best way to make the holes for the tiny screws to go in. If I drill holes I am concerned that this will destroy the felt. Conversely, I don't know if I can punch holes and not make a mess that way. Interested in what others have found.

I have attached a couple pictures. Not all that helpful put - You know....

I had the same issues with the clips, trashed them & ended up using 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. Worked great, still holing nicely after 15 years. I don't recall drilling any holes in the window channel but it's been awhile.

Excellent timing on this post. I just did mine and was about to do a pic heavy post of how I dealt with them. It will pop up soon. I had no screws to deal with in my kit FYI.

I just checked the window channel on my 49 and it has 2 screws holding it in place, not sure if they came with holes already there or I had to drill them out. Either way, go easy and you'll be fine it's not a big screw..... maybe #6?

For the screws, you should be able to push an awl through the material for the screws to go through. Not too many people have had success in making the cheezy aftermarket clips work well, if at all. Some guys have been able to utilize the clips off the old, originals and transfer them to the new fuzzies with better results. That's assuming you have an old set to rob them from.

I guy posted on here yesterday about the best way to install the clips. Determine where you want them on the anti-rattler, mark it, then clamp them on out of the truck with a punch and a block of wood drilled for the clip “bulb”. Then install as a unit.

the original clips can be bent to help hold if needed, bending out the tangs to enlarge the bulb. If they are tight, use a little Vaseline.
