I tow from time to time but I cannot leave the drawbar in the receiver because my truck just barely fits in the garage. With the draw bar in place, the door can't close. I've been storing it in an under-seat storage bin I installed, but it occurred to me that it would be really dangerous in an accident. The last thing I need is a 10lb piece of steel flying around the cabin.
I could store it in the garage, but I like to keep it with me as there are times where I've had unplanned need for it. Are there any cool ways to store it in the bed or something?
One possibility, don't know how cool it is but it's very effective at keeping things corralled. I don't have to chase things to the front or dig stuff out from under the slide. I put one each side. If I recall they are 4" tall and bolted in place. I used aluminum so no rust and I have a place nearby to buy it. Jim
Might be able to mount it where one of the side brackets mounts for the anchor point in the bed side. Or you could buy the Molle panel for one side and do it the right way.
How's the clearance behind the tow hitch? Can you just hang it from the backside, so the ball is under the truck, instead of behind it?
I briefly considered it but ruled it out quickly before even experimenting. I frequently have a bike rack in the receiver which means I'd have to move the cleverly hidden tow bar ever time I wanted to go biking. Really good idea though.
I keep thinking about the storage case Ford and others offer that goes between the wheel arch and tailgate. But I don't know if the brackets that secure it are aluminum or steel. If steel that isn't good as it creates a cathodic rust scenario with the aluminum bed
